criminal vs nine queens - i've just been reading that there is a remake of the argentinian film nine queens in the works, which will appear as "criminal". i would like to say that i really do not understand the need for remakes of films. in reality i do understand, well, perhaps not the need, but the reasoning at least. too many people are too lazy, if a film has subtitles then they won't pay it any attention - doesn't matter if it is the best film ever. so if a film is the good, then it is no doubt easy money for a hollywood studio to re-film it in english. what can you do? anyway. this remake is to be directed by gregory jacobs, his first film as director - though he has been involved in a number of films in assistant director capacity. recent credits include solaris, full frontal, ocean's eleven, traffic, erin brockovich and the limey. which you might work out for yourself were all directed by steven soderbergh. so it is perhaps not surprising to find that soderbergh has co-written the adaptation with jacobs. for the most part the cast is not one i am especially familiar with. though of the two leads we have maggie gyllenhaal (secretary, donnie darko, adaptation., confessions of a dangerous mind) and diego luna (y tu mama tambien; an interesting addition of a south american actor, though mexican rather than argentinian). of the remaining cast the only other name i am familiar with is peter mullan (my name is joe, young adam), who looks to be in a minor role.
