¥727 beefcake. ¥003 + ¥024 + 2X = ¥727 - the duo of beefcake have made a name for themselves since their debut release in 1997 thanks to the material that came out on hymen records. while beefcake have released their third album on thrillbeatconstruction and an ep on the m-tronic label, it was the earlier material which really established them. the two beefcake 12"s spontanious human combustion and in medias res have now been deleted. however the material remains available with the release of the ¥727, which features the tracks from both 12"s, along with new artwork in keeping with the first two CDs (polycontrale contra punkte and coincidentia oppositorum), as well as two new tracks. for anyone who is just discovering the band with the CD drei or the lamentable hote, then this is an essential release. even all this time later this material sounds fresh and appealing, the ability to mix melodies with samples and hard beats in such a distinct fashion is what makes beefcake in a league of their own. for those who already have the original releases there won't be as much of a reason to buy this collection, the 2 new tracks aren't entirely up to the standards of the classic material, or at least suffer from being not as familiar. though personally, even with the original 12"s, i find that i appreciate having the material all together on one disc.
